Nsukka — University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, has concluded plans to run a masters degree programme on climate change at the post graduate studies school of the university, as the deans of faculties in the institution have all keyed in into the programme.

Dr. Nicholas Ozor, a senior research fellow at the Africa Technology Policy. Network, ATP, Nairobi and the linkage for the partnership between the institution and the UNN dropped this hint in an interview during the 17th International Annual Conference of Agricultural Society of Nigeria, AESON, at the UNN , saying that the university's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barth Okolo had been supportive and even provided funds for programme.
Ozor explained that in partnership with the university, committee had started working to recommend relevant courses that would be taught for the master degree programme, just as the deans of various faculties had shared the draft curriculum with other stakeholders on the course, before approval was sought from the National Universities Commission, NUC.
He further noted that the academic approach in dealing with climate change phenomenon is to mobilize agricultural extension agents, pointing out that no country across the world can toy with climate change issues.
According to him, ATP with chapters in 29 African countries had been promoting all climate change programmes and activities in the UNN even as it had held series of programmes to sensitize the university community on the need to conduct research trainings on climate change adaptation.
